Are you kidding me? Today is Family Day – A Day to Eat Dinner with your Children

Today is Family Day – A Day to Eat Dinner with your Children, according to The National Center on Addiction & Substance Abuse at Columbia University.

Are you kidding me? Do we need to be told to eat dinner as a family?

Apparently, some do. This web site has some great tips for spending family time together and the research showing dinner makes a difference.

You can view it all at http://casafamilyday.org/familyday

I really thought it was a no-brainer to have Family Dinner’s together – however my kids say our family is not the norm. They’ve done informal surveys in health class. Now, we do not have dinner together every night. They were involved in sports and one of us was always busy running one or another back and forth to the pool. On other nights we had family dinners and on the weekends we had family breakfasts.

I don’t think it is the be all and end all of preventing your child from engaging in risky behavior, however this is our family. Take some of the tips from the website and use them – whether it be during family dinners, commutes, or family walks.

To Your Health,
Lisa
